Hello,
You’ve made it here! Welcome, and thank you for taking the time. I genuinely appreciate being considered for this important role in your life.
You might be here because of a few different reasons, such as looking for a therapist in the LGBTQ+ community, or wanting better sex and relationships in your life, or managing trauma responses, or going through a big life transition. Through the years, I’ve worked with a lot of different people in individual, couples, and group therapy, and have gained helpful insights with specific groups of people.
For gay men, I have been very helpful in developing emotional intimacy, managing shame, and growing self-compassion;
For trans people, I have been very helpful in holding a safe and contained space to process the relentless culture war attacks, and in finding nurturing ways to thrive;
For women, I have been very helpful in the healing of relationships with men, specifically and collectively, and in the alleviation of anxieties about life roles;
For people living with HIV, I have been very helpful in re-framing identities and labels, and processing the impact of shame and trauma;
For couples and relationships, I have been very helpful in supporting different and better communication styles, deeper relational bonds, diverse relationship structures, and healthier attachments;
For people struggling with sexual functioning or desire, I have been very helpful in encouraging the creation of more expansiveness and pleasure in their sexual lives;
For people with experiences of different types of childhood abuse, I have been very helpful in guiding them through the different stages of healing those wounds;
For people in recovery from addictions, I have been very helpful in supporting the maintenance of daily life, finding balance, preventing lapses, and managing emotions;
For people facing big life transitions, including grief and bereavement, I have been very helpful in guiding them through the different phases of change and uncertainty;
For everyone, I have been very helpful in making them feel that they matter, they are cared for, they are listened to, that they have a voice, and that they are not alone.
How I Can Help
Specialised Therapy: Sex & Relationships
Anything related to sex and relationships can come under this specialisation. My particular experience focuses on:
Couples & relationships therapy - communication, desire discrepancies, consensual non-monogamies, dating and seeking new relationships, managing conflict
Sex therapy - low libido, unreliable erections, concerns about porn use, recovering and processing trauma, healing from sexual shame, sexual health difficulties and diagnoses, living with HIV, sexual and gender identities
Specialised Therapy: Dramatherapy
Dramatherapy is an arts-based creative and pluralistic therapy.
Creatively, it is based on the techniques and rituals of the art forms of drama and performance, and their various elements, such as body movement, character development, improvisation, creative writing, storytelling, directing, etc. Its pluralistic approach means that it uses various psychology theories and approaches to best suit the needs of each individual.
Using the aesthetic distance and metaphor of drama in therapy, provides a sense of safety and ability to figure out that 'this is me' and 'this is not me'. This metaphorical distance provides a structure whereby participants become closer to themselves.
Contemporary Integrative Therapy
This is for therapy which feels more generalised about life, particularly contemporary life, which let’s face it, it’s more and more complex and uncertain.
As a therapist, the years since the pandemic have felt like a whirlwind of continuous and incessant change, uncertainty, overwhelm, and existentialism. So much of what used to be clear standards and norms around the meaning and purpose of life have been impacted and shattered by global dynamics in the last few years alone, through the prevalence of social media and screen time, climate change, wars, genocides, economic turmoil.
Using different theoretical and practical approaches, this service aims to support surviving and thriving in an unstable world; navigating living losses and collective grief; life transitions and changes; shifts in world view and unlearning old narratives; mid-life shifts in identity and purpose.
